This is my fav. Burger place!! Love the fries! I always get the kids meal, which is perfect size for me!

AMAZING! You know when you get home, you think: 'I'm hungry, what do I want? What am I craving? Oh! The juiciest, tastiest burger in the world'?? You are totally thinking about this place. Burgers? 5 stars Raspberry Milkshake? 5 stars French Fries? 5 stars Customer service? 5 mothaeffin stars I will always make sure to stop by this place whenever I am in Utah. Literally, the best burger joint I've ever been to in my entire life. The meat just states different, and I think it's due to the fact that they mix their meats. I finished my fries before I was even a quarter of the way dome with my burger because of how delicious they were. Gawd, I wish I would've ordered something to go.

So...what's all the rage about this place? I'm all in for yellow paper burger joints but this place was terrible. We got their biggest burger which was the 1/3lb burger. The patty was very thin and the burger was flavorless. Like negative flavors. The fry sauce thing is gross man. We, as in my husband, decided to be somewhat healthy and ordered a spinach salad. It was bed of spinach with processed candied walnuts, dried cranberries, and yucky dressing. I was so annoyed that I had spent my calories and my time here. It's mediocre and passionless. Good service though. I rather eat at Crown Burgers. (Please note my burger flavor profile. My favorite joints are In & Out and Five Guys. And In & Out is my ultimate favorite.)

Good but not great. That charge for cheese and they do not have avocado They also cook in peanut oil, which was a problem for my girl friend.

Stopped at Tonyburgers for a nice lunch and it was delicious. Great burgers that you build yourself - cheese and certain toppings are extra. They have combo meals for a salad and a burger or a burger and fries. I got the T-wedge salad and it was absolutely delicious the burgers are great too. Definitely add on the mushrooms for the extra 49 cents it's worth it. The place is very clean and the staff is friendly. If I'm ever back in the area I'll be sure to stop by again! :)

Amazing. The meat they use always tastes fantastic, the fries are the best in the valley. Came in 10 min before they were closing (unknowingly) and got awesome service. Favorite burger in the valley.

I love Tonyburgers.... Nothing frozen, everything fresh. No better fast food burger in all of Utah. No better fries either.

Tony Burgers opened today in Holladay and we were excited to try it out. The space is large with lots of seating. Nice, big widows with a great view of Mount Olympus. We had no trouble seating our party of 7 adults and 2 kids all together at a large table. We came early and it wasn't busy but as it got closer to dinner time the place started filling up. The service was attentive. We really loved the food! I ordered the Tony burger and wedge salad combo which also came with a drink. For $10 I thought that was a great deal for dinner. The burger was super flavorful and the meat was cooked perfectly, not overdone, very juicy. The bun was great too. The salad dressings are house made and SO good. Both the ranch and blue cheese were fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their burger, including my husband who is very picky about his meat since he is allergic to flour and has to eat his burgers without the bun. He gave the meat two thumbs up. The fries were shoe string and cooked just this side of crunchy which I loved. Everyone also loved and fought over our order of onion straws. They were perfectly crunchy and had great flavor. We also loved the fry sauce, tony sauce and bbq sauce that came with the fries. If you are a dip person you will be happy here. The raspberry shake was DELICIOUS. And lastly, there is pebble ice. Amen. We loved it, enjoyed our meal and will be back very soon. So excited to have a new burger place in Holladay.

I would agree with the comment, "good but not great." I thought the fries were lackluster. However, the strawberry coconut shake was delicious! I'd go back just for that!

  • L S.

Burgers were medicore - thin patty and overcooked. Fries were ok - large quantity but nothing special Floor was dirty and slick (with grease grime?) in places. While ordering I watched an employee wring out a wet rag onto the floor in the corner of the kitchen!

Been here twice now. I think it's great. Their burgers are awesome. The meat is super good. The prices are a little but higher than I would like to pay but still worth it. I thought the fries were fantastic. I'll have to try a shake some time.

*This review is for the Tonyburger in Centerville UT. I don't know if these are owned by the same company, and I can't figure out how to remove this review * Tonys seems to be following the 5 guys model of build-your-own burger ordering. You start with a choice of a "Little Tony" (1/4 lbs) or a "Big Tony" (1/3 lbs), and then you pile on the toppings. Some are free, and some will cost you more. I opted for a Big Tony (wrapped in lettuce) and my friend went for the Big Tony combo which includes a drink and fries. The fries are cooked in peanut oil (in case you have an allergy) Side note : I am still looking for a place that has caught on that cooking in synthetic oils should go the way of the dinosaurs and go back to beef tallow and/or lard... Shoot, I'd even settle for coconut oil... But I digress. The burgers and the fries were tasty, though I did have to have them redo mine on account that the level of my burgers pinkness was bordering on making me fear for my health. My friends burger was cooked through, which makes me wonder what is the standard temp there. Overall, if you are in the area and wanting something less chain and more do it yourself, then give Tonys a try. They are going to be a little more expensive than your average burger place... But that seems to be the trend in general with these gourmet burger joints.

I ordered the burger with American cheese, grilled onions, and mushrooms with onion rings. The food was delicious! This was my first visit and I was glad I stopped here for lunch!

Really great burgers. Don't understand why there was a charge for cheese. No avocado. Really fresh food all good worth the money.

Went here after a recommendation from a friend. Their burgers are a mix of chuck and brisket. Definitely worth stopping by.

I've come here multiple times over the last year and a half since my original review. It's still one of the best quick burger places in town. I've branched out and tried some of their shakes and have been really, really impressed with the Strawberry/Coconut as well as some of their limited summer time flavors (I think it was huckleberry?). The quality of the food is still awesome as well. The fries are great. The sauces they have are still awesome too. The service is quick. If you're in need of a quick burger, try Tonyburgers out.

  • Darin T.

This place is BOMB. The shakes are the best in Utah probably that I've had. Thick and creamy and served with a wide straw. So fun. The burgers are good and they have a lot of add-ons. You can get a "big tony" or a "small tony" but you usually end up with more bun than burger so that's a bummer. Not a huge fan of their fries but they're still good. I would choose smash burger over this place but I would still eat here again.

Best burger and shake in Utah! Their fries wont disappoint either!

  • Oscar O.

This is a pretty solid burger chain. We went on a Saturday evening and the place was probably 80% full. I was surprised to see that on such a busy night only one person was working and the register with 2 cooks. I got the big burger with fries and along with a number of the toppings. Despite the place being full and only 2 cooks the food came out reasonably fast. Everything was quite tasty although I would have appreciated hotter fries. In summary Tony burger is on the higher end of the burger chains in slc. Better then most but not the best.

Two words: onion strings. They were delicious. And the burger, preeetty daaang good. I had mine with pepper jack cheese and Tony sauce and the works and it did not disappoint. They even have hickory flavored fry sauce which has a smaller barbecue flavor. Delicious. The people the work there are suuuuper friendly. Both times I've gone they've been helpful answering questions and giving rec's (and don't get impatient if you're indecisive). Overall, I'll recommend this place if you like custom Burgers. They have options for eggs and bacon and all kinds of interesting things to spice it up. And the restaurant is pretty small, but for a group of 2-4 it's perfect. Anyway, it's a good place with good burgers and fries.

Here on a Sunday afternoon. Light crowd, quick service. The salads are average to good. Burgers were very good, and the service was quick. They get only three stars because the tables and floors were dirty even though the crowd was sparse.

Burgers: Very VERY VERYYYYYYY Good. Burgers. One of the best i've ever had. The thing that would make it even butter is if you could ask how you want your burger cooked. Fries: Look like crap, but area really really good as well. They give you a fare amount of it too! Shakes: Probably one of the best shakes I've had in life. LOL Just remember to add malt. PS: This Tony Burgers DOESN'T give miltary discounts. The last review of the Clinton, UT location does though.

  • Michael B.

Not bad...not amazing in any way. The fries were over-cooked, the burger was a tad dry. Overall, I prefer in-n-out, smash burger, and five guys.

  • Frank W.

I had to laugh while reading the wall that was boasting about the preparation and care of their fries while mine were old, cold dried out small pieces. Burger was okay. I used to like this place it seems it's going down hill.

    (3)
  • Nicole R.

This place was pretty good I did notice the meat wasn't really staying together very well, but I am not sure if that was because the meat was lean or if it was cooked for too long

  • Dr. J.

Maybe an off day? Who knows but I will not be in a hurry for a return visit. 1. French fries dry, hard and not hot. 2. Outside of burger cooked very well done and almost brittle. Topping were nothing special and bun and lettuce became slimy from toppings. Would I visit again? Honestly no.... Too many other great burgers in SLC area.

  • Callin L.

Best fries ever! The burgers are really good. It is a build your own burger place so don't screw it up!

Burgers are ok. Not much flavor to them. Think the star wall of people who get free burgers it weird. Not sure I'll go back.

I hate burgers. I only ordered from here because it was where my coworkers were going while I had to be stuck at work. WOW. I didn't even get to have it fresh! Pretty damn good, shake is yummy too. I'm going to have to try this place again with everyone else's tips. Fries could use some work.

The burgers at Tonyburgers are way good; they are made with a blend of sirloin, chuck, and brisket... and you can tell. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The fries are pretty good, too, and so far they've always come out piping hot. Some critiques: I don't mean to be that stereotypical Utahan complaining how everything is "too expensive," but I do think that Tonyburgers could reevaluate some of their pricing. I'd love it if they'd include a complimentary slice of cheese with the burgers rather than charging an extra 70¢ to upgrade to a cheeseburger. But somehow I manage to overlook this every time because the burgers are just that good. I wasn't crazy about my chocolate shake. I was expecting it to taste really authentic (i.e. heavenly) like the ones at Smashburger, but instead it kind of seemed like fast-food soft-serve quality. I suspect the "famous seasonal raspberry shakes" are no exception to this, but I have yet to try myself. The staff isn't exceptionally friendly in my experience. Be sure to check your take-out order before you go; they seem to have a habit of forgetting my pickles. But somehow this would-be 3-star review is ultimately bumped up to 4 stars because I'm already plotting my next Tonyburgers visit as we speak. THOSE BURGERS. Edit: The review was bumped back down to 3 stars. I've gone to Tonyburgers a few other times now and they are consistently really slow. Like, REALLY SLOW. One time my brother ordered a simple burger & fries there and they literally took 35+ minutes to bring it out. At one point, they assured us it was on its way and then returned 10 minutes later to write his order down again on a napkin. (By the way, I had already ordered, received, and eaten most of my take-out meal from a superior restaurant nearby.) That's just inexcusable for a burger joint. It's rare that my wait is that long even at a sit-down place. Step it up, Tony.

  • James R.

Color me underwhelmed. There's a lot of superlative on the menu, but there needs to be some steak with all that sizzle. Sadly, that's what Tonyburgers lacks. Fries were O.K., burger was all right, and the milkshake pretty good. However, with all the build-up on what they were about I was expecting to be impressed. Instead, I got something better than In-N-Out but worse than Steak 'N Shake. To sum up: too much ego, not enough beef. I've had better and while Tonyburgers is an O.K. visit, I wouldn't go out of my way.

Food was awesome! Burgers were scrumptious. Definitely get the sauteed mushrooms if you're a fan of them, they are amazing here, super fresh tasting. Service was also awesome, Michael helped us, and he was a sweetheart! Asked us about our experience and if we needed anything just enough, not too little but not pestering us. Loved my visit? Will come back & will tell me friends

We don't eat burgers often but when we get the yen we've decided this is the best fast food option. Ingredients of burgers seem to be of good quality and fries are excellent. We are quite happy to split one Big Tony and fries in order to each have room for milkshakes or malts which are made properly here with hard ice cream. Room is a bit dispiriting and sports tv occasionally too loud but certainly a better option than the traditional Salt Lake hamburger house kitty-corner on the SE corner of 700East and 400 South.

Expensive and greasy. I'd take In n Out any day over this place. If the service was better I might have given it 3 stars.

  • William H.

This will do if you are in need of a burger. I have definitely had better burgers in town but these are not bad or anything. I will say that the onion rings were quite delectable. Parking was a nightmare during lunch time though. Doesn't seem like there is enough parking to meet the demand for this little shopping area. Nonetheless I have went in the evening and was able to find a space pretty easily. Overall the staff was friendly and the decor was cool.

    (4)
  • Callin M.

Had lunch there yesterday. The place is clean and I like to decor. The menu is pretty straight foreword, big or little burger and add the toppings you want and add fries. Pretty simple. They also have salads that are pretty good as well. The burgers are really good. The patty is one of the better ones I've had in awhile. The down fall of the burger is the bun. Every time I eat there the bun is kinda on the dry side and they always toast it too much. The toppings are always fresh and of really high quality, which is nice. After you have lunch be sure to try on of they're milk shakes, while they are overpriced in my opinion, they are pretty good.

  • Frankie C.

This is one of the best burger joints I've ever been to. I don't feel heavy after eating there. I like to go a couple times a month.

  • BJ H.

I'm pretty bummed. I had heard good things about this place. I ordered a burger with pepper jack and bacon, my girlfriend ordered a smaller burger with the same. They brought us our food and I had no cheese or bacon and hers was missing bacon. I sent them back ad they just slapped the stuff on and have them back. Very bad customer service and the goes were so soggy. I won't go back.

    (2)
  • Tanner B.

I have to say this was a much more average burger than I expected. I had been told great things about the mix of brisket, sirloin, and chuck that make up the patty, yet the overall burger was not very impressive. The bun was very average and the fries were good, not great. My favorite thing was the option for onion straws on your burger, because I'm an onion junky.... Overall very average.

In some respects, one has to admire a place with this kind of braggadocio, where every single thing they have is the best that can be offered anywhere. I get that they spent a lot of time and effort developing the menu and the story behind it was an interesting subtext, but all of that is nothing without execution and after a delay of about 8 or 9 months from when I was originally going to go, I was curious if this would live up to any of that. Let's start with the fries. They spend a lot of real estate telling you how wonderful they are due to their (probably patented) 10 step process. I'm not a fan of either shoestring or twice-fried fries and these things, though crisp, were far too much on the brown (and oddly sometimes wilty) side and are nowhere near my top fry vote. In fact, I don't know if I will bother eating them again if I go back. The burger itself, while pretty good (more like 3.5 stars), is not up to the level of Five Guys. I tried to mimic the burger I usually get at Five Guys (read that review, if you want to know what it is), but in this case, they don't have A1 and instead had some sort of BBQ sauce on it. I started disliking the BBQ sauce but by the time I got about halfway through, my views on it were more along the lines of it being ghastly and a distraction to the burger itself. I realize these are hand-crafted burgers, but one of the issues with this can be an uneven burger and the problem there is that the meat then cooks at different speeds, which is what I got today, half a burger cooked remarkably well and half that was much less so. The bacon was also overdone and nearly rock hard. Not so nice. Their effort also didn't extend to my son's chicken nuggets, which were ovoid particles covered in batter. I get that kid's food is a complete afterthought for nearly all restaurants and most children don't have a palette discerning enough to really worry about high end stuff, but phoning it in on this level is something I expect from Red Robin, not from a place telling me how great it is. Soda fountain was a wash. No Coke Zero or Diet Mt. Dew, which is what I prefer and I didn't feel like gambling on the iced tea, so Diet Dr. Pepper made an acceptable substitute. Decor is obviously aimed at the college set; this place could fit into nearly any student union building in the world. The music, oddly, was a bunch of 70's AOR dreck and it was on much too loud. It was enough that it made conversation difficult, which is far too much. Overall, I think the menu needs some slight tweaking. If they're going to throw in at the Five Guys idea, it would be wise to have all of what that place offers, as far as toppings and drinks, and toss out the BBQ sauce entirely. A better quality bacon would also go a long way. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again, maybe in half a year and see if they're improved things, but as it stands now, I wouldn't make the drive for anything I had there today.

Great burgers, fries, and shakes (especially their raspberry and strawberry shakes), but the prices are on the higher end. Definitely join the text club. Never ever order at regular price if you can help it. Work your way up to a platinum card and life is good! My favorite deal is actually with the UofU's Starving Student Card. You can get free fries and a free burger with the order of a burger. Simply put, "That's a lot of free food!" -Tonyburgers cashier

  • Grason R.

My philosophy: the more burger places you live next to, the happier you are. In fact, thats just science. Tonyburgers is a nice little addition to the Trolley Square area. I don't go there often, but I enjoy it when I do. I happened to stop by the other night and grabbed the bacon mix-in burger. It was a 3 star burger. Not amazing, but definitely not a fast food burger. The best thing you get, in my opinion, are the fries. They are always hot, and you get a lot of em. They have 2 sizes of burgers, tons of toppings, salads, and shakes. Don't expect anything crazy, but certainly don't hesitate to stop in and give it a try.

  • Meagan B.

This place wasn't very good to us. Burgers were tasteless and mega greasy. The place wreaked of grease just walking in. We don't eat burgers often but had a craving and were disappointed. I'll stick with Habit Burger.

Easily the best burgers in town! The patties are a combination of freshly-ground sirloin, chuck and brisket. TASTY!!!

  • Bud H.

This place has really grown on me. Tasty burgers, incredible fries, what's not the like? The first couple of times I went here it was a bit inconsistent - hence the three stars. One time the meat was cooked perfectly but the next time it wasn't. I battled through the inconsistencies because I knew that if I caught them on a good day I'd be rewarded with some of the state's best fries. Well, they must have worked out the kinks, because now I'm rewarded more often than I am not. With that said, I must admit that my fries were a tad overcooked (i.e., almost chip-like in their crispiness) as recently as a few weeks ago, but that's only happened once and I'd still prefer that to them being limp. As for the burgers, they are good every time. I really love the flavor of the three-cut beef mix, the bun is nice, and they've got all the toppings that I'd ever want. You definitely pay a premium, especially if you upsize the fries, but I feel the quality of the food makes up for the occasional splurge.

  • Benjamin H.

This place is pretty ridiculous- do yourself a favor and go to Five Guys or something instead! Or perhaps eat a banh mi at Indochine. Fries are terrible and this is just sub-par fast food that sorta slightly seems, your one time checking it out, like it's not fast food. But it is. Worse than Wendy's I'd say.

  • Kimo W.

Man, I'm glad we gave Tony Burger's a try. I got a "Big Tony" w/ a fried egg, grilled onions, jalapeños, BBQ sauce, tomato, and pepper jack cheese. The meat/burger was great! My only issue was that the bun was a bit soggy, and the lettuce wasn't crisp. Fries were "OK", and I'd recommend the strawberry coconut shake. The staff was great. They knew their stuff, we're polite, and prompt. The restaurant was clean, and well taken care of. We'll be back.

  • Ameilia Q.

I'm upgrading my review to 2 stars. The owners contacted me through Yelp and were extremely polite and personable, even offering me another chance to try them out. I have had several other restaurant owners contact me through Yelp when I have written negative reviews and most are confrontational and defensive (which I understand but will not convince me otherwise) but the owners of Tonyburgers really have that neighborly kindness knack and are truly invested in customer service. I think I will give them another try and perhaps upgrade my review yet again. Also, it was pointed out to me that Tonyburgers is a local establishment.

  • Sam S.

After reading some favorable reviews I figured it was time to give Tonyburger's a try. I LOVE hamburgers and in my short wonderful life I've consumed many a fine burger and many mountains of delicious french fries. I've eaten cheap burgers and expensive burgers, quarter pounders and full pound burgers. So, anyway, I was excited to try Tonyburger's and walking out the door I was excited to be leaving. Tonyburger's disappointed me to put it simply, they failed to deliver something I was interested in eating. Their meat tasted weird to me, I can't explain it, but it just had a strange taste. Their lettuce tasted unclean or dirty or something. The bacon was flimsy and not worth the extra cost like Charles S. mentioned in his review. The fries were your typical shoe string french fry and were overcooked and not very good either. The one, and the only redeeming thing was the overpriced Oreo milkshake we ordered and the super fat drinking straw it came with. That straw was awesome! I would like to see more burger and shake joints get those straws. Seriously. I would NOT eat here again and I would also NOT recommend this place. My girlfriend felt the same way. Go to Five Guys instead. Hell, go to Red Robin, they have a better burger than Tonyburger's in my humble opinion.

  • Kyle B.

Burger has a unique taste but not outstanding (although it is satisfyingly juicy). Go here for the meat but go to Five Guys for a more complete burger experience if you so choose. But... These fries guys.... THESE FRIES. That is all.

  • Justin C.

I always try to review things in context. This is a relatively quick burger joint serving $4-7 burgers. It's easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. It seems like every restaurant advertises "real (insert meat here)". This was clearly a fresh patty, done medium-well. Toasted bun...jalapenos...barbeque sauce...onion strings. It was awesome. Definitely motivated to come back and try the salads. Only negative...the decor is pretty drab. I appreciate that it doesn't look like Applebee's, but I think the plain look of it had kept me away for awhile. Don't really care, just a suggestion.

The first time I went to Tonyburgers I was impressed. My burger was fabulous and the sauces were super tasty. I thought I had found a new favorite burger joint. I have been back 3 times since then and every time was a little disappointing, unfortunately. The burgers have been a bit flavorless and dry.....like little hockey puck burger patties that suck the moisture out your mouth. Also, I don't know what it is about me, but they always mess up my order. Last time they put some of my husbands toppings on my burger and some of mine on his. It was all sorts of mixed up. In Tonyburgers defense, our dining companions did really enjoy THEIR meals. I would have given them two stars based on my most recent experiences, but because the first was so good I bumped it up one. If I ever go back it would have to be a really good experience to convince me to work it back into my rotation.

I think Tonyburger gets three stars from me because the expectations are so high. Double fried shoestring fries that take two days to make, three kinds of beef hand selected to be the perfect combo, best burgers in Utah, etc. etc. But for the hype, I think I might have liked it a little better. I ordered a Tony with bacon, cheese, fried egg, jalapenos, and sauces. Kudos to them for having so many options, but I'm always a little annoyed when there are no pre-created options, because then you're standing there, reading the menu, trying to decide whether you want each ingredient. I'd like a few suggestions that maybe I can modify to my taste. Tonyburger advertises the special three-way blend of beef in their burgers (I think sirloin, chuck, and brisket), never frozen, made to order, etc. etc., so I was expecting a beef bonanza. My burger was tasty, but not overly beefy or seasoned. Perhaps that's because it's not all that thick (different from what I was expecting). I found the bacon to be good, middle-of-the-road bacon, much better than you'd find at a fast food restaurant, and the egg was cooked fine. But I was expecting more than a condiment-table in the burger. The fries were tasty, and it's hard to find shoestrings in town. But I wasn't wowed based on their advertised tedious process for creation. They were piping hot when they arrived. Maybe they'll get an extra star when I try a plain double with cheese, their famous shakes, or salads. But I agree with others -- other semi-fast burger joints do a better job in this category at this price point (Smash, In-N-Out). I'll probably try again, and if you're on 400 S, it's better than Wendy's or BK. But I think I'd take Hires as best-burger-joint nearby.

place gets worse even on the second shot. Burger NOT cooked to order. Basically flavorless unless you add the sauce that they push even though its free...Hellooo. As i am eating the sign falls off the lower wall onto a guys toe and all I heard for 30 seconds..OHHHHHHHH.

    (1)
  • Paul H.

Definitely one of my favorite burger joint in town. The beef patties are made from 3 different blend of meat cuts mixes together and throw on a fire hot grill for you. It takes a bit longer for them to prepare the burgers but trust me, the wait is well worth it.

    (3)
  • Joshua S.

3 stars for the fries and 2 types of fry sauce (bbq and the regular utah variety) the 1/3 lb burger was...tasteless. i couldn't taste the beef! and it didn't help that it felt dry. looked juicy enough, but... they have free wifi, a flat screen tv, AND a 25% student discount. although, without flavor, none of these things matter much.

Really good burger but they were understaffed and the food took a long time and they gave me a tiny portion of fries. My girlfriend went next door to Zupa's and ordered, got her food, and ate it in less time that it took to get my food. I'm pretty sure it was an off night for them so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The burger is still one of the better burgers around.

My first Tonyburger experience was, overall very positive. Excellent burger. The ground brisket/sirloin/chuck was extremely delicious and expertly cooked. The fries are also very delicious and it is evident there is an extensive preparation process. My only disappointment was the raspberry shake. It was the worst 5 dollar shake I've ever had and the reason I'll return to Smashburger next time. For 5 dollars, they'd better use real berries as opposed to the sickening sweet raspberry flavored syrup I'd expect in a drive-thru offering for far less than five bucks. It was pretty clever marketing, as the sign advertising the shake stated it was available for a limited time, giving the misleading impression that it was only available when raspberries are in season. I'm pretty sure you can get raspberry syrup year-round. I'm also pretty sure I'll see the same sign if I go back in the dead of winter. The food left a good taste which was somewhat tainted by the shake. It's the little corner-cutting details like this that keep a Tonyburger from being in the same league with the big boys. Big league pricing, little league shake.

For some reason yesterday, I was craving a burger. I never crave burgers. So I said to myself, "Self, I give in. Let's have a burger." After a late-ish workout at the gym (if I'm going to have a burger, I have to otherwise act like I'm healthy), I was feeling lazy. That is, I was not feeling the drive to Sugarhouse for Smashburger. (I think that's beyond lazy, even.) I had noticed Tonyburgers many a time in the shopping center formally known as the Whole Foods shopping center, but had never ventured in. Tonight was the night. I showed up, not-so-classily dressed in my gym attire (the guy at the counter was one of the few people outside of the gym who gets to witness me wearing something sleeveless, for better or for worse). I went with the quarter pound burger with grilled onions, "Tony sauce" and jalapenos (because I'm spicy) along with some fries. Because I checked into the establishment on Facebook, I got 50% off my burger. Excellent. The total came out to less than $5, which was quite reasonable. I admit, I was tempted by the shake, but willpower won out. I brought my grease stained cardboard box of food back to my dwelling and evaluated its contents. The burger seemed smaller than I expected, and the bun seemed kind of generic, but it was tasty, as was the very fresh tasting meat inside. The jalapenos actually had some kick, and the onions were beautifully grilled. "Tony sauce" is, indeed, fry sauce, which is fine by me. I am a huge fan of the shoestring style french fries, so these made me very happy. Overall, I'd say it was well worth my $4 and change. When my next burger craving comes, I may have to return.

It's a very good burger with decent fries. The meat tastes like meat. Most fast food burgers have the texture of meat, but no flavor of meat. Then, it's all about the toppings. I've been working my way through the best 75 burgers of Utah from SLC magazine. Most of them haven't actually been that good. This one is good. OTOH, at the same price point of Smashburger, it's not quite that good. I think if you took away the extra pound of fries 5 guys throws in, not so many people would like them better. I went simple to check the quality of the actual burger. Just catsup, mustard, onions and cheese. I can see that they can walk across the fine line of overcooking the meat easily and unless the meat is cooked correctly the burger will not be overly good. It's hard to do a double fried shoestring fry and they can easily walk across that line and end up with dry fries. So, I can understand the reviews that are all over the place. Today it was good. The ingredients matched the quality.

Tonyburger's can definitely compete with the other fast food burger chains. I do have a soft spot for burgers and I like how they do it here. You choose the size of your meat, what type of cheese you want, and add toppings until you are happy. Simple and easy and you get to have it your way! For their spuds, I like their criss-cross fries. They are nice and crispy and have a good flavor to them. To complement the potatoes, there are plenty of sauces to choose from. If you like sauces other than catsup, then you'll be pleased to find that there are alternatives here.

I have been to Tonyburger's 4 times now and I can honestly say that I am done. It just isn't that great. They have the fresh cut fries and the proprietary blend of meats and the cool local business vibe that we all want, but the flavor just isn't there for me, the service is lacking and what is with the cloud of smoke that envelopes you from the grill? Don't they have a venting system? I don't go to lunch on a work day so I can go back to work smelling like I was eating on top of the actual cook top. The burgers here have promise, but the consistency is lacking. One day they can be raw in the middle and the next overdone. The fries, they also have potential, but they never seem to be right. I want that crisp exterior and soft interior. It's not a lot to ask for. I guess I am still looking for that perfect burger joint to hit up for lunch.

First things First... I gave TB my first and only 5 stars. Here is why: Burgers are fresh. As a foodie, freshness ranks high on the scale for me. Crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, warm buns...all of it, has to be fresh. The meat, and I'm not a total fan of red meat, is juicy and cooked perfectly. I travel a ton, always in search of just the perfect burger. Well folks, its here. Secondly, I'm mystified as to why so many Utahans voted this so low. I'm not from here originally and it seems though many locals are unable to appreciate good grub, especially if its different. If you want a big, artificial, unhealthy burger- go to McDonald's or Red Robin. Leaves the lines short for us real foodies. :) BTW...Fries are skinny and never limp. Try it. Fall in love. I do every Monday. I added a picture. burger in hands.

Whenever I am downtown and need a burger (as if I ever really NEED a burger), this is where I like to go. I love the flavor of their burgers. The meat has a great taste to it. Seem like it is always fresh and good quality. I hate bad burgers. I hate frozen meat! I hate cheap quality meat! I don't give 5 stars because it is still just a simple burger, with nothing really gourmet about it (sorry, optional fried egg does not make it gourmet). Even so, I recommend Tonyburger if you are in the mood for a good old fashioned, quality hamburger. Oh yeah, I really like their fries too.

Tonyburgers is a 3.5 star "bubble team" for me and I think I have to round DOWN this time. The burger patty was excellent! It was fresh, juicy, perfectly seasoned and prepared. The fresh veggie toppings (lettuce and tomatoes) were also very good. I prefer the fresh jalapenos at Five Guys to the pickled ones here and the grilled onions were stringy and lacked flavor. The "Tony Sauce" was a nice touch. The bacon was skinny, scrawny, limp and low quality (save your $.075 and avoid this one). I really enjoyed the fries. They were definitely THIN so beware if that's not your cup o' tea. They were crispy and lightly seasoned and I really enjoyed the fry sauce and hickory dipping sauce. I got a shake for $3.99. That's a bit spendy, especially given the (small) size, but it was Bear Lake raspberry, so I figured I'd give it a try. When I checked out my receipt, there was another dollar added on for "raspberries" so my shake was now an infamous "five dollar shake." To quote Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction: "G****mn! That's a pretty f'n good milk shake. I don't know if it's worth five dollars, but it's pretty f'n good." I cleaned this up for the sake of our younger Yelpers, but you get the idea. And NO Vincent, they do not put bourbon in it. So, for a burger, fries and a shake, it set me back $13. Next time, I'll avoid the shake, avoid the bacon, escape for less than $10 and I'll be happy. Maybe that'll jump Tonyburgers up to 4 stars.

If the prices were more reasonable, I'd have given this place another star. But for the $22 we spent, we could have eaten at Acme Burger. The meat was the star. Some kind of special blend of cuts that really comes through in the final product. The fries are alright, but the shake was garbage. Tasted like syrup. Toppings were actually garbage, we had to pull brown wilted lettuce off the top.

Well this place has become my Saturday lunch spot. The burgers are great but the fries are some of the best I've ever had. Considering SLC the staff is pretty friendly and it's a great place to catch the game if need be. I would recommend to anybody that loves a good burger.

  • Travis W.

Dang good burger, love the tri-beef blend. Their double cooked fries are some of the best I've ever had. It's perhaps a little pricier than most would expect to spend on a burger meal, but the quality and freshness of the ingredients justify the price in my opinion.

The service was good. No problems there even during a busy lunch time. The burgers were good, better than some restaurants. What really pushed it up to four stars was the bacon, really good bacon on the burgers. Fries were just ok.

We go often, Our 2nd favorite burger in town. Great price & loyalty Platnum program, awsome shakes!! I really like it. The egg & toppings are excellent quality. Yes! It is GREAT - we think! and consistent 90% of the time.

Went here because we had a BOGO coupon (story of my life). I was expecting an experience on par with Five Guys burgers, and the atmosphere was basically the same. I loved the burgers, their tri-blend meat is something else. My husband and I couldn't think of a time we've had fresher tasting meat from an establishment. The buns were warm, the onions were grilled just right, and the Tony sauce (basically fry sauce) was great. It was a perfect burger. I thought the fries were 'meh,' but I'm not a fan of shoestring fries. Husband loved them, but he said the shoestring fries are 'his thing.'

My buddy Ryan and I are on a quest to try all of the burger joints in the Salt Lake metro. We've already tried several local spots, but we haven't been very good about leaving reviews. We're going to document our journey by Yelping each place we try. Burger day is Friday, so stay tuned for more SLC burger spot reviews. First on the list - TonyBurger's. If I could think of one word to describe Tonyburger's it would be "average". Let me explain... ------- Food ------- The burger was plain. The burger didn't have any recognizable seasoning or spices, the meat was so-so, and the condiments and veggies were predictable. If you were the only burger spot in town you could get away with "average", but in this town you can find a decent burger every 10 blocks. ----------- Seating: ----------- Tonyburger's decor was eerily reminiscent of SmashBurger. The copycat style might play well in a small town, but anybody who's been to SmashBurger will instantly recognize it as a knock-off. The seating was adequate, but they don't have any tables outside, which I think is a big mistake. You could seat 2-4 more parties on the patio. ------------- Summary ------------- Nothing about this place stands out. If you're looking for an okay burger, at an average price you'll love Tonyburger's. If your food palette demands more, skip this spot and head over to SmashBurger, or Salt City Burger.

I agree with Jeremy's review. Average is the best word to describe Tonyburgers. We had a text coupon for 50% off so a group from work went to try this place out. The text-marketing must have really paid off because this place was packed! To their credit, the line moved quickly and the food came out fairly fast. Seating was a problem for such a big crowd, we felt lucky to get a table. For those of you familiar with the burger heaven known as Five Guys, this place will quickly stand out as "not-nearly-as-good" second...or maybe third or fourth. The menu is similar in that you pick your patty (Single or Double) and then pick your toppings. I was excited to find out what the sauce choices listed as "Tony Sauce" and and "Tony's Ranch" were about and what made them special...big disappointment that Tony Sauce is fry sauce (ketchup and mayo for those of you not from Utah) and Tony's Ranch is...Ranch. Wow. Thanks. So I went with the BBQ sauce and again...disappointment reigned...only about a teaspoon of the sauce actually ended up on my burger. The burger was fine, it was cooked nicely with a touch of pink and was pretty moist. But it lacked seasoning. The french fries were no where even in the same planet as Five Guys. They were shoe string cut (which is fine) but the smaller cuts can burn more quickly...which was the case with some of the fries plated in my basket. Also, they needed about 20 times more salt on them...bland, greasy and over-done. Thank goodness I could drench them in malt vinegar or fry sauce...or hickory fry sauce...which appeared to be a fry sauce/BBQ sauce mixture. Hello Tony! How about making THAT your Tony Sauce??...at least it's a twist on plain old fry sauce. Good notes: They have Diet Dr. Pepper on the fountain. Crunchy, hospital ice, and Limes to go in your coke. yummy! So overall, it was fine. Not bad, but definitely nothing compared to Five Guys or Smashburger (as Jeremy mentioned). So glad I had a coupon...I would go back again...but I would NOT pay full price. PS Parking is TERRIBLE in this strip mall.

Went in to Tony Burger to try it for the first time after getting an advertisement in the mail. The cashier didn't even look at me. I asked some questions about the menu--a bit confusing for a first timer--and he seemed pretty annoyed to have to be speaking to me and wasn't helpful at all. I did order a burger and fries for my son and myself. They were okay. I liked that they were hand made patties and not industrial however, that's where the good comments end. They were small burgers for the price, the fries were mediocre at best, the service was atrocious. I've never been back and I couldn't recommend it unless I was pulling a prank.

I've been twice now, most recently earlier today. One of the better burgers in Salt Lake. High quality beef, perhaps a bit over-cooked (next time I'll ask if they cook to order) but still juicy. Thin and crispy fries, and amazing if that's your style. In fact I think they are in the running for some of the best fries in Salt Lake. Tip: take someone with you and just get one order of fries, because they give you a ton.

Went between Christmas and new years. It was very very mediocre food and I wont go back. One star because service was horrible. This place could be great but owners or management get what they pay for in help. All kids working when I was there. No greeting when my gf and I walked in. I literally made direct eye contact with the order taker girl for 5sec and then I finally said hi? Didn't try to upsell me anything. First time ever in,didn't see thy had waffle cut fries or onion rings till after I ordered. Would have purchased both if it was brought to my attention. Its hard to overcook a Burger on a flattop grill but mine was overdone. O.k. flavor but way overcooked. Fries would have been good if they were pulled a minute sooner but were overcooked. Greasy! Guy who delivered food was very nice. 2 of the 3 employees kept gathering around the front register...had to know why.....so when I got a refill I snuck a peak and they were playing some matching pictures game on the cpu. Why the owner has this on there is beyond me. Now I know why I wasn't greeted. this place wont be There in another year. Good idea, no management.

Another trip to Tonyburgers and the high rating still holds up for me. All of the complaints listed in other reviews are fine with me. With burger meat this good I wouldn't think to order BBQ sauce, but thats personal preference. I guarantee if you would have gone back and asked for extra sauce they'd be happy to oblige. Thats the thing that stood out this last trip. Everyone is pleasant that I saw working here. To address parking complaints, just use the underground parking below Whole Foods. There's always plenty.

I'd rather gain my fat from Five Guys or Smash. Adult burgers have real cheese but give the kids fake cheese? C'mon now. I won't be returning. Food was mediocre.

Really good burgers are advertised everywhere, but I'm always a skeptic. Tony Burgers delivers a pretty fresh tasting burger at a little higher price than what you'd find at a McDonald's or Burger King. My burger was super messy and most of the onions and lettuce fell out due to the grease, but it was pretty good. Their fries are more stringy, but at least tasted fresh. The game winner for me was their Onion Ring strips. They are like mini-onion rings. Bite sized treats that don't fall apart when you are trying to eat one. They were innovative and amazing and made up for the OK burger and worse fries. This is the second time I've eaten here and it's been about the same experience both times. It's a good eat if you're trying new burgers, but would not completely be my first choice when I'm craving a burger.

Seriously, I had to go to this place a couple of times before it really grew on me. Now, I truly consider this one of the best burger places in Salt Lake, especially when I tried their Bacon Patty. Wow - they seemed to really have made the patties by hand. There are some interesting shakes that are pretty good. The fries aren't perfect and I wish the burgers were a little bigger so that I didn't have to order the fries. But overall, delicious burger. I might add that I'm also a fan of Smash Burger, Crown Burger, etc, if that helps at all.

After at least a dozen meals at Tonyburgers I am prepared to tell you what is great and what is mediocre about this place. The Great: --their hamburger meat is, without a doubt, the best I have tasted in many years. I think the key is that they do NOT over-season. They must also grind their own meat...or get it very fresh. I'm going to say that the meat is...nuanced. Weird, huh? I have yet to find any gristle or off flavors in one of their burgers. For this reason, I am a loyal customer. --their homemade sauces (hickory dipping sauce, Tony's ranch, fry sauce) are all quite good. I particularly like their ranch. Ranch dressing from a bottle is gross and fake tasting. With Tony's ranch you can taste the difference. The hickory sauce is a little sweet for my taste, but it's good nonetheless. --the toppings are fresh a show some judgement on their part. Greenleaf lettuce instead of iceberg; actual ripe tomatoes; thinly sliced onions, etc. Very small details, but those details help separate Tony's from the mid-tier burger pack. The Mediocre: -I don't like their French fries. There is no accounting for taste in fries--some people prefer steak fries; some people love the frozen standards; some people want shoestring style; on and on...Tony's fries are fresh, and they are very thin. They would probably benefit from vinegar instead of a heavy fry sauce. I just don't love the texture or flavor. -the decor is serviceable, but it fits in the Smashburger-style of corporate eatery. What I mean is that you feel like you're sitting in a chain restaurant. It's not a big deal. Tonyburgers also offers fresh shakes and a whole salad menu. I have not had either. My trips are very spartan--burger and soda. I'm like a meat-eating monk there!

Grade B, Everything was fresh as far as I could tell and well cooked. I didn't find the burger to have much flavor though. lack of salt, pepper or seasonings I guess. if you like thin crsip french fries these are pretty good. overall pretty ok

Wasn't sure what to expect but my meal was very good. Burger is fresh and tasty and I like they way they make their fries. Also isn't too heavy on the stomach

  • Sarah C.

Yeah, I've had a bit of a change of heart. I still like Tonyburger, but I've had them a few more times since my last review and some things have started to bother me. The patties have either gotten thinner, or I didn't notice that before. The burger's flavors are also kinda mushy, probably due to poor produce this time around. The fries are still excellent, however.

PRO: Seemed like fresh meat. Fries OK. CONS: Expensive if you want the typical burger and fries. $24 for two people to eat lunch? Whoa. Wasn't very tasty.

I love me some Burgers and when in the northern part of Salt Lake I like to go to Tonyburgers. This place can be termed a "fast casual" restaurant. Tonyburgers is 100% local and offers some delicious yet simple meal options. While I have never tried their salads or chicken sandwiches I decided to try their "Big T" burger (1/3 lb patty) and some fries. When ordering a burger you can create your own with size (single, double or if you dare triple), toppings and cheese selection. They have the basic toppings plus Jalapenos and 3 cheeses to choose from. Their burgers are a little messy but taste home made. Their fries taste like they've been sprinkled with magic and have a delicious crunch. I would also suggestion their waffle fries as they are seasoned. They offer both Hickory BBQ Fry sauce and Tony's sauce (fry sauce). This place has some of the better burgers of the custom burger joints and it's local which is a plus! Try this place out if you like a good burger with not a lot of fuss...

    (4)
  • Anh V.

Even though they go to great length discussing how they came up with the best combination of meat for the patty, the burger here is still kinda dry. There are many burger places around here that offer better burger (Lucky 13, Rich Mighty, etc.). The only reason I'm giving this a 3 star instead of 2 is because they give discount to U of U staff/students.
